You try not to think about it. You try not to wait. You keep your eyes wide and open. You’ll see what they say. They say it’s no accident, they saw it a mile away. The ocean will rise, the sun will burn a hole in your skin one day You try not to think about it, You do anyway. There must be a way to fix it There must be a way So you build a time machine, send messages into the past. But they come back unread, unseen, unheeded, What did you expect?

They formed on the continental shelf Water teaming But something struck off by itself Up, upon a slab of rock One came creeping Somehow seeming to draw breath Inky water turned to black Nothing touching Nothing touching but beneath Not a swimming, floating in and out What a feeling What a feeling by itself They formed on the continental shelf What a feeling by itself What a feeling, to be dry What a feeling, what a feeling...

The fire went out the fire went out in the darkest night, creatures awoke They started out calm, we all got a long Then they bared their teeth and laughed at us You know I didn’t mean it ha ha You know I didn’t mean it ha ha Then they disappeared with their jaws outstretched, getting all worked up Tearing thru the woods like a man on fire How dare you think you can go to sleep Like we’re finished now cuz the fire went out And if we don’t let all our anger out It’ll just build up it’ll all pour out Then they collapsed, then they collapsed, They snarled and we weren’t sure if they were really asleep Let’s make for the road, let’s make for the road Their teeth get sharper now with every bite I think they really mean it, I do I think they really mean it, I do Then we disappeared with our arms outstretched What did we do wrong? If you feed the beast it’ll feed itself How dare you think you can go to sleep Like we’re finished now cuz the fire went out And if we don’t let all our of anger out It’ll just build up it’ll all pour out Gonna chase you down gonna eat you up And then spit you back when the fire goes out And you think you’re gonna get away now, But we’ve caught your scent gonna follow you now We’re never gonna give up

Set the table Use an oval Offer up the aromatic bread Start the chanting Hold your hands up They came once, they’ll surely come again. Do you wanna wait till tomorrow to come back to where you were? Do you need another moment? Give in to the one you are Shuka shuka Interference Holy ions Reedy voices on magnetic tape Listen closer Can you hear it? Through the static, slowly taking shape. Do you wanna wait till tomorrow to come back to where you were? Do you need another moment? Give in to the one you are Shuka shuka

Latter Days 04:43
If I ever made it seem easy then be sure that I am just a liar And if I seemed to disobey everything you asked it's not for lack of trying Signs and the miracles, heat and the blinding light We knew we were right, we were sure. Then came the creeping doubt and I could not cast it out, could not cast it out We fought with people in the street, Spit down at their feet and shredded up their pamphlets The voice of god was calling out so only we’d hear it Calling us, calling out. La la la... When you placed your hands on mine and traced all of the lines and told me about my chakras I thought I've seen this trick before, a woman at the door, a carpet bag of candles La la la... Signs and the miracles, heat and the blinding light We knew we were right, we were sure. Then came the creeping doubt and I could not cast it out, could not cast it out Can you be sure anymore? How can you be sure anymore?

Arid Zones 03:42
I'm not gonna wait / how can i prove it to you? Number forty-eight / look me over Cover my face / why don't I remind you of you? Number forty-eight / is it orders? Arid Zones Arizona What a sad state / I wanna be part of the team But you had to cut weight / for the lord I'm a careful man / you know the older I get The less I hesitate / I feel bolder Arid Zones Arizona You know I really like it right here I got a lot of room to roam Something about the drier climate Really puts the vigor in my bones I will always call this place home Something about your misreading Resembles a waterspout Something about your willful misreading Makes me want to drive you out I don't know what your talking about Arizona

Allies 03:49
Every time they see you coming Muttering beneath their breath Hiding behind their cloudy eyes Every time you hear it coming What is on your brother’s mind? How do you avert your eyes? Every time they see you coming Words reveal themselves anew You can doubt a little less Every time you hear it coming Smile so you can see their teeth Rolling you around inside their mouths If they think they’re gonna fool you Like that don’t mean nothing by it Protest too much And if you say it’s gonna thunder Good enough for me We’re allies And if you say it’s gonna thunder Good enough for me We’re allies Every time they see you coming…

Expectations 03:40
We watched you shrivel up one summer We watched you floating by the edge of the pond Just close enough to hear, far enough away to feel alone We watched you hollow out one autumn We watched you hunched above your blueprints all night The future soaked you up, but it alone could never get you dry Did we not meet your expectations? So you stayed folded up all winter, come on. We did lose sight of you. I'm working on believing that's on you. oh oh, oh oh You could not find it enough....

Breathe Easy 04:00
Small town living no positive friction So we moved downtown You made the money, I studied the rhyme scheme We made the rounds But every day a twenty dollar parking fee And every night a full streetside cacophony (behind the bed stand plays the neighbor's baby grand) How do we keep our eyes up on the throne With our two noses grinding on the stone? Wouldn't it be easier with a little breather? The heart of satirical man is a cynic I could make it easy but the devil could be in it There's too much here so we moved out to the country Nothing to choose We got bored 'cause nobody came to visit us What did we do? Nothing left to lose my dear So we curl up and it's only you and me In our house it's as quiet as can be cut the ceiling fan, cut the banging pots and pans We try to see how long we can lay completely still Try not to think about the lives we could have lived Wouldn't it be easier with a little breather? The heart of satirical man is a cynic I could make it easy but the devil could be in it The heart of a cynical man is a critic Do you want to breath easy?

Life Alone 03:04
You came with the crocuses all purple and white The incantations mother pressed on your shoes The mark of a mastermind You came with me two years on, sleeping inside The incantations mother pressed on your shoes Did it make you as old as I? I'm not utterly blind this time I'm not brotherly kind Gotta get back to you With very little life alone You came with the crocuses all covering the yard The incantations mother pressed on your shoes The mark of a mastermind Agree to a life that unfurls in purple and white The incantations, brother let's shoot some hoops And drink a belly full of wine With very little life alone

Beamships 05:29
Out in the field one night I was bathed in an unearthly light Ship hovering high overhead All the sparrows fluttering around it Of course I took a picture of it It was blurry ‘cause the flash was off Don’t think you’re the first to have doubts. Don’t think you’re the first. But I know what I saw… Out in the field one night Saw my baby in the moonlight There in the arms of an engineer It was so clear But I know what I saw… I know what I saw.
